IFSTC offers one the most comprehensive training programs in the country, transitioning
apprentices into successful journeypersons in the dynamic field to finishing trades.
All year round, regardless of weather conditions, Drywall Acoustic Mechanic & Lathers erect various exterior and interior stud wall partitions.
Drywall Finishers & Plasterers thrive in exacting work environments, requiring stamina as the position demands they work on their feet.
Exterior Insulating Finishers assemble exterior wall cladding systems that provide exterior walls with an insulated finishing surface and an integrated waterproofing system.
HAZMAT Workers are knowledgeable and skilled at identifying, discarding and disposing hazardous and dangerous materials.
The Health & Safety program prepares students in understanding potential workplace health & safety hazards and how to develop preventative measures to improve work conditions.
IFSTC offers a number of upgrading courses available to all journeypersons looking to bolster their resume and trade skill-set.
The IFSTC is governed by a group of trustees acting on behalf of four organizations that represent both the industry’s workers and their employers. These organizations include the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local Union 675; International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Local Union 1891; The Acoustical Association Ontario; and The Interior Systems Contractors Association.
Once you have selected your Apprenticeship, you will be required to fill out a preliminary online application form.
Choose one Apprenticeship to apply to as only one application per individual will be considered within a four-month period.
Carefully note the required documents outlined on page-1 of the Online Application, as you will be required to provide physical copies in-person upon registration.
If you have any questions about the required documents, call our Training Centre and speak with a representative.
All applicants will be contacted via email upon application receipt and review. Check your inbox and your junk-mail folders.
If you do not receive a response after three weeks from the date your application was submitted, you may call the Training Centre for a status follow-up.
Scheduled interviews are conducted by our in-house Industry Apprentice Liaison.
After the interview is conducted a collaborative decision will be made to either place you with a contractor, or on a wait list to be invited to in-school training.
It is up to you to thoroughly research the trade you are applying for – unsuccessful candidates may be asked to perform more research and return within four months to re-apply.
Over the past 25 years, the IFSTC has evolved into one of the finest facilities for drywall training in the province. Each year, over 200 apprentices complete various phases of the in-class portion of their apprenticeships at the IFSTC.
In addition, several specialized journeyperson upgrading and health & safety courses are delivered at the IFSTC such as First Aid Training CPR and AED, Blue Print Reading, Layout and Certificate of Qualification Preparation Courses.
