All year round, regardless of weather conditions, Drywall Acoustic Mechanic & Lathers erect various exterior and interior stud wall partitions.
Drywall Finishers & Plasterers thrive in exacting work environments, requiring stamina as the position demands they work on their feet.
Exterior Insulating Finishers assemble exterior wall cladding systems that provide exterior walls with an insulated finishing surface and an integrated waterproofing system.
HAZMAT Workers are knowledgeable and skilled at identifying, discarding and disposing hazardous and dangerous materials.
The Health & Safety program prepares students in understanding potential workplace health & safety hazards and how to develop preventative measures to improve work conditions.
IFSTC offers a number of upgrading courses available to all journeypersons looking to bolster their resume and trade skill-set.
Drywall Acoustic Mechanic & Lathers are similar to wood carpenters, except they build everything out of heavy and light gauge steel studs (not wood studs) all year round, regardless of weather conditions. Drywall Acoustic Mechanic & Lathers erect various exterior and interior stud wall partitions. They also install metal door frames, window frames, a variety of acoustical ceilings, and precast mouldings for columns and ceilings. In addition, they also install x-ray shielding, thermal and sound insulation along with a variety of drywall panels and metal and vinyl trims.

program classroom fee is $600.

the advanced level of in-school training.
Drywall finishers & plasterers prepare drywall panel sections for painters. They apply a ready-mix compound over seams and screw heads and also reinforce panels by using a perforated or mesh compound. Drywall finisher & plasterers fabricate and install cast and prefabricated cornices as well as ornamental and prefabricated plaster moldings. They also apply special coatings and repair drywall blemishes.

Also known as ‘synthetic stucco’, exterior insulating Finishing Systems combines the best of Drywall Mechanic and Drywall Finishing skill sets. The antiquated construction technique has made an impressive architectural comeback. EIFS is a three-part system. First, exterior walls are installed with rigid foam insulation boards (using adhesive or mechanical anchors). Then, a finishing coat using a finisher trowel is applied. This pre-mixed, coloured texture can be used in endless patterns for added aesthetic appeal.

Discover the latest apprentice-trade program offered by the MLTSD. The Hazardous Materials Worker program offers exclusive training in specialized tasks including the containment, removal and disposal of hazardous materials. Apprentices of the program are expected to be familiar with applicable legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Environmental Protection Act and their regulations.
FEES:
The Hazardous Materials Worker program classroom fee is $250.

A fee for the Asbestos Abatement Worker Test issued by either George Brown College or Sheridan College (Algonquin College in Ottawa) ranges between $100 – $150 and is directly paid to the College in the form of credit card or debit card payment.

With new trade regulations as well as the ever-changing and upgrading of tools and equipment, we strive to deliver current, knowledgeable and informative health & safety training sessions. in order to provide the best education and training to all of our course participants and members. Our group of trained and certified instructors attend courses and trade shows annually to stay up-to-date with changes to machines, procedures, and training delivery standards. Health and safety is an integral part of developing our skilled trades people, and we have formatted the delivery of our courses to better serve both our members and contractors.
Members can conveniently attend health & safety training on weekdays, weeknights and weekend days when applicable and available.

Proof of Canadian Status: Need to provide Permanent Resident Card, Canadian Birth Certificate OR a valid Canadian Passport
Government ID: Photo ID and Social Insurance Number (SIN card or CRA paper). Ontario Health Insurance Card (OHIP) is not accepted.
Training: 5400 hours including two 8-week sessions of Basic and Advanced levels of in-school training
In-School Hours: Monday to Thursday – 7:00am to 4:00pm, Fridays – 7:00am to 1:00pm
Completion: Once 5400 hours are obtained, along with successful completion of both levels of in-school training, students must write a Certificate of Qualification exam at the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development ($150.00 + HST [cost per exam]) – passing with 70% or greater will entitle the full journeyperson wage of $46.23 + full benefits
